a brief theory of becoming, pt 4
- The work "holds open the Open of the world".
- The work moves the earth itself into the Open of a world and keeps it there. The work lets the earth be an earth.
Heidegger did not call his later projects "works" that follow his definition. Yet each work opens.
opening up the world; or, philosophizing with a sounding rod
the world of experience is one that does not unveil to the closed off.
at one point in my life, I felt and noticed things that didn't make reasonable sense in retrospection, or so I thought. My first experience with death was second-hand; a friend's mother had died when I was eight or nine. when I heard about the death, I didn't really understand what it meant or how it affected me. after that point, I lived in an observational state of anxiety; I sought understanding for what her death meant, what death meant, and walked around the house hyper aware and fearful. a handful of times, I thought I saw the passing-by of a white dress around a corner, a presence in a room that I didn't want to enter.
I'd never met the woman. I didn't know what she looked like. and yet i was haunted by unknowing. following a few of those experiences, I started developing an outline in my head, seeking answers to things i felt and could not explain. I continued building outlines, mental pathways, seeking reason-for.
I was in churches in my upbringing; the quiet, hot, stale-aired tackboard churches littering the american south that connect the elderly through their isolated attempts to reiterate the interpretations of scripture that were placed onto them, their latent doubt within this scriptural adhesion an unaddressed haze passing through them reified by their presence, a fear of death that would not be should the interpretations truly reverberate, and thus the haze ignored through reiterations of psalms and choruses between them, and few of the youth to pass the good word onto. Awana's groups and Upward basketball gave places for awkward adults to stutter their insertion into the communicable world and spurt unto impressionable unformed youth through forced weekly memorization of bible verses and half-aborted attempts at their explanation by adults who had never comprehended the verses themselves. In my already forming outlines I could see and placed no import on the experiences and was scolded weekly for not memorizing the verses.
and yet the presence of God held over me. omniscience cast fear in all things deemed wrong. punishment by hellfire eternal was the implied resultant through wrongdoing, although not quite voiced by my own parents, the combined implications of wrong by both they and the community combined and led to the conclusive hellfire for all things improper. no outline existed yet for me between bad for me and bad for other and bad for the world. bad, if placed into the world, was bad. and thus an angst seeded deep. doing wrong, taken to its extent limit through infinity of experience of burning placed a spiky vibrato of anxiety permanently inside all perceptive experience. dis-ease set in, and I sought comfort, for which heaven attempted to provide as the dialectical antithesis.
so in my adolescence two ghosts hung over my perception; an all-god who punished wrong-think and a wandering woman laced in white around each corner, both reinforced in all surroundings, both fear and trembling reverberated through me. and through that experience, a closing off from the self occurred. the openness and possibility, the ways of differing experience, became wrong. the good thing to do and to be was quiet, internal, yet giving to others the self. doing-for was christ-like, doing-good. but giving away, not cherishing the self, leads to decay and rot of the body.
a rigid black outline was formed, and giving away yourself to the world was the immediately apparent accepted pathway in thought and experience to protect the soul from the pitfall of the selfish for hellfire, and following the rails of the giving for heaven-comfort. and heaven was comfort. light clouds, all love, no earth to impute gravity. weightless with no outline, love flowing and all ok. but what then was this ghost who roamed my home, were she not in heaven nor hell?
the roots from the tree which christianity impregnated in me from its violation still exist as rigid mental pathways. these outlines are buried deep and not visible. Nietzsche was a skilled gardener, but not even he could predict the ways it shifted in form after the announcement of the death of god.
but there's something to pick at here. avoidance of pain is logical. an imaginative child can picture eternal damnation, feel it, and have a biological response to seek comfort as respite without the realization that a ramification to the body occurs; the body closes off to the world in protective enframing. and the ghost became the reflection of possibilities restricting, reducing as the enframing becomes an enclosed, isolated trap which the light cone of protention can forecast. should those walls have closed off, the ghosts would have disappeared, and the possibilities of concept ended, and I would be full reflection and concealment; trapped, looking only at the self, having become the ghost of Narcissus.
as it was, there were penetrations in the enclosure trap. Christianity is not a perfected trap->sap->husk model like capitalism, but it can be a strong trap, as we have seen throughout history. there are always pathways through the enclosure of self through which the world may be reached; small ports for link cables to transmit, but they must be listened for, then they have to be expanded, sounding for transmission to become possible again; looking for ghosts before we become them.
words are a procedural tool of objectifying experiencing; they exist on an odd plane, one which has possibility to layer and build upon to portent meaning but not without filling with intent. a word is an outline, a shape in two-dimensions, and piece by flattened piece a concept can form, but without either inflating the words beyond their state through impregnating them with intent, (say through a fourfold, paging Heidegger, or a mythological/etymological/poetic Zarathustra), they can become reverberatory noise to a reader, a channeled sound seeking resonance within another.
resonance is the source of meaningful experience. resonating with a coincidental concept is a causal source of synchronicity. resonating with another is what makes connection, friendship. through all the discord and din, finding some source of temporary shared meaning is what we seek when the purposelessness of the world becomes revealed through nihilism.

?
in the shape of becoming, nihilism takes shape as an orthogonal collision, both reducing your experiencing to a type 1 "fast" experience, creating anhedonia, a flattening. time moves faster, difference disappears, and the body will not handle it forever.

?
when this hopeless, purposeless nihilism takes hold and constricts your experience of the world, compressing within, pressure builds, forcing release or rupture.
this release is literally an ejection of mass, your makeup, into the world. should your own release continue to resonate with you, and the release was not a total rupture, then the ejection can be a line of flight for intention. D&G discussed lines of flight as both potential sources for creation, or destruction.
in this shape, lines of flight have relational pathways. Nietzsche foresaw this through taking mathematical limits of his own ideas; the eternal return was the limit discussed in part one, where he theorized that the highest peaks of life experience justified life through the lowest of lows, and proved it by taking experience of life through the eternal return, a theoretical eternity. Deleuze's derivative of this is a limit, a tangential line of flight.

?
Stepwise, through multiplicative resonance with the line of flight, the highest highs of mankind are generated. the eventual highest high of mankind becomes a step-change into mankind becoming the overman. the risk, therein, are the ruptures or releases seeking comfort to pad the lowest lows, dampening resonance, getting sucked into the gravity well of becoming the last man.

?

?
through seeking resonance, we find meaning. through meaning, we become. all the terminology, all the phrasing, they're concepts, the same as you. you are a concept. there is no difference between the word, concept, and you. each was released, as a line of flight, through a paired resonance from your parents. a biological line of flight, thrown into the world, the force of which multiplied by the pure intensity of resonance of your parents.
We've always known this.

?
The Great Cairn of Newgrange is a chamber of the earth, a cavern adorned with spirals, holding open the Open of the world. Built around 3100BC, older than Stonehenge or the pyramids. my claim is that the cairn was designed to create resonance through an intentional enframing. by designing the acoustics of the chambers to vibrate at a resonant frequency range the human body can experience, the closing off from the self can be temporally opened, sounding through sound, opening to meaning, if you're seeking it. The cairn is a sounding rod creating resonance between the world and man.

?
in the discord and din, sometimes silence is needed. in the silence, striking a hammer to hear the sound a concept makes, one can see if it resonates. but if we've been flattened by the world, closed off from connection, sounding trepanations must take place in the few openings we have.
