the connecting principle
Jung's theory of synchronicity holds in it a sort of automatic process under which a person makes connections with seemingly random (acausal) occurrences and events or happenstances. The theory is valuable precisely because of what it is not. It is not forced. It cannot be made to occur. And because of this, it cannot be forced in general. These connections are unable to be generated by an external because they are an internal process. That process is valuable because it is inherently your own- others can be pointed toward the occurrence and see the connections, but they cannot be experienced in the same way, by happenstance, by connecting your own experience with the universe.
This all sounds quite new age and anti materialist as Jung has been typecast, but this observation, when made into a practice of acceptance and interconnection and becoming, points a person into a deeper, more meaningful way to live.
The synchronous event is syn (combination) chronos (time), but don't directly refer to time, rather experiences in general. Experiences may take place in reference to a certain time (a friend calls right when you're thinking of them) but can also be irrelevant to an instant time (a nearby bridge was designed by the same architect as your nearby childhood bridge thousands of miles away).
The reason I point this out is I think there's something to this meaningful event which brings you, as a being in the now and a becoming through your life, to an unconscious, tensionless source of line of flight. It's a direction with moment which, if you follow the through line to its connective properties as a process, you can connect yourself to something greater without necessarily believing in a mysticism or religion (avoiding all token terrible "The Alchemist" connection) and respond in the positive away from an active nihilism.
When internalized in an honest way to yourself, without delusion, self deception, antagonism, or other diffusive properties, it's a motile tail that you're born with and can make stronger through perception alone.
Writing the theory out, it sounds like a load of bullshit. But it also seems to be an answer to nihilism which avoids all aggrandizing, narcissism, asceticism and lets itself simply be a node of observable connection and nothing more unless you decide to make more of it.
